Spider Solitaire is the card game for people who find ordinary solitaire too forgiving. Two decks are dealt into ten columns, and the goal is to build full runs of one suit from King down to Ace. Each finished run clears itself off the table. Clear all eight and you win.

A game is slow and mostly quiet. You think a few moves ahead, shuffle cards between columns, and decide when to spend one of your deals. That makes it a good break from the racing and training games elsewhere on Duck Life 3: nothing times out, and you can leave a hand sitting for as long as you like.

How to play

Use the mouse or touch. Click a card to pick it up and click again to put it down, as the on-page controls describe. Most builds like this one also have undo and hint buttons.

You may move a card onto any card one rank higher, whatever its suit. A group of cards can only be moved together if they are the same suit and in sequence. So a column of mixed suits is awkward to move, and a lot of the game is about keeping columns tidy.

When you run out of useful moves, click the stock pile to deal one more card onto every column. You cannot deal while a column is empty, so fill any gaps first. When a King-to-Ace run in a single suit is complete, it is removed automatically.

Tips

• Empty a column early. A space lets you rearrange stacks, and it is the most useful thing you can have.
• Turn face-down cards over before anything else. Hidden cards are where bad luck lives.
• When two moves look equal, build on a card that matches in suit rather than just in rank. Same-suit stacks can be moved as a unit later.
• Hold off on dealing from the stock. Each deal buries cards, so use up your useful moves first.
• Use undo to try out a plan. Rolling back a bad idea costs you nothing here.
