Armed police descended on the scene in Sheldon, Birmingham after the father and son were knifed, arresting a 14-year-old boy suspicion of attempted murder and wounding
A 13-year-old boy and his father were stabbed outside their home in a suspected case of attempted murder, say police.
Armed officers arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of attempted murder and wounding following the knife attack in Sheldon, Birmingham, which happened shortly before 10pm on Tuesday.
The 13-year-old victim suffered serious injuries and remained in hospital on Wednesday, while his 37-year-old father, who was slashed across the back, was recovering at home after being discharged.
A witness claims the incident began as a “dispute between teenagers”, with armed police descending on the scene after the victims were knifed, BirminghamLive reports.
Residents reportedly tended to the injured boy before emergency services arrived.
Another woman, who lives nearby, overheard a “commotion” before four or five police cars arrived at the scene.
Other neighbours said they heard “a lot of shouting” before police “swarmed” the street.
Officers went door-to-door to speak to potential witnesses in the normally quiet neighbourhood which overlooks infants and junior schools.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “A teenage boy and his dad were attacked outside their house on Wychwood Crescent, Sheldon just before 10pm last night (10 August).
“We’re investigating and a 14-year-old boy has already been arrested.
“He’s in police custody on suspicion of attempted murder and wounding.
“The dad and son were attacked with a knife and treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital.
“The dad, aged 37, was slashed across the back and is recovering at home.
“His 13-year-old son suffered more serious injuries and has been kept in hospital for further treatment.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 9:53pm to reports of a stabbing at Wychwood Crescent, Sheldon.
“We sent two ambulances, two paramedic officers and a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic to the scene.
“We treated a teenage boy for potentially serious injuries and a man for injuries not believed to be serious.
“Both were conveyed to hospital for further treatment.”
